Nine Farmers Tragically Killed in Boko Haram Attack on Borno Communities

Tragedy struck the peaceful Zabarmari farming communities in Borno as at least nine rice farmers fell victim to a ruthless attack by Boko Haram terrorists. The incident unfolded on a fateful Sunday while these farmers were diligently harvesting their crops.

Zabarmari, renowned for its rice production, lies approximately 25 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno. The heart-wrenching event was documented by Zagazola Makama, a publication dedicated to reporting insurgency activities in the Lake Chad region.

According to Makama, the terrorists swooped down on the unsuspecting villages, arriving on numerous motorbikes. They organized themselves into three groups and executed their sinister plan with precision, targeting the hardworking farmers.

“The heavily armed terrorists stormed rice fields and attacked the farmers who were harvesting their farm input in the villages of KOSHEBE, KARKUT, and BULABULIN in Mafa local government area, less than 20 kilometers from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital,” reported the publication.

A source, who bravely recounted the horrors of the attack to Makama, revealed that during the onslaught, the terrorists resorted to gruesome tactics, using cutlasses and knives to inflict multiple stab wounds on the farmers. As of Sunday, nine lifeless bodies had been recovered, and numerous individuals remained unaccounted for, adding to the anguish of their families and communities.

Efforts to locate the missing residents continue as both security operatives and the dedicated Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) of Borno tirelessly search for any survivors or further victims of this senseless violence.

The Zabarmari farming community has endured the relentless targeting of Boko Haram insurgents over the years. These terrorists have continued to disrupt the lives of innocent farmers, either through violence or abductions, as they strike at communities that only seek to make an honest living from their agricultural endeavors.

This grim incident serves as a painful reminder of the challenges faced by these resilient farmers in the region. In November 2020, a similar attack claimed the lives of approximately 45 Zabarmari farmers in the nearby village of Kwashabe, located just 20 kilometers north of Maiduguri, illustrating the persistent threat that hovers over the region.
