Nigeria’s Labour Minister of State, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Resigns
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has stepped down from her position.
She announced her resignation on Friday in a post on X, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment,” she wrote, adding that her decision marks “a new beginning” while reaffirming her commitment to public service.
Her resignation comes three days after President Tinubu’s 31 March deadline for ministers and political appointees intending to contest elective positions to leave office, in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.
Mrs Onyejeocha, who represented Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2023, is expected to pursue a return to the lower chamber under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Her exit is part of a broader trend, with several ministers and appointees stepping down ahead of the deadline as political activity begins to build toward the 2027 general elections.
