Nigerian Senate Reshuffles Standing Committees: Ndume Replaced as Vice Chairman of Appropriation

The Nigerian Senate has undertaken a minor reshuffling of its standing committees, resulting in significant changes to key positions. Senator Ali Ndume has been removed from his vice chairmanship role on the Appropriation Committee and reassigned as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism.

The announcement was made during a plenary session presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, where various committee heads were unveiled. Musa Mustapha (APC-Yobe) has been appointed as the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Livestock Development, following the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development by President Bola Tinubu.

Moreover, Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno) has been elevated to the position of Majority Whip of the Senate, necessitating a change in leadership for the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters. This committee will now be chaired by Adegbonmire Adeniyi (SAN) (APC-Ondo).

Further adjustments include the appointment of Anthony Ani (APC-Ebonyi) as the deputy chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism, alongside Ali Ndume’s new role. Additionally, Ned Nwoko (PDP-Delta) has been designated as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparation and Repatriation.

In a statement, Mr. Akpabio highlighted Simon Lalong (APC-Plateau) as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Agricultural Institutions, while Abdul Ningi (PDP-Bauchi) retains his position as chairman of the Senate Committee on National Identity and Population.
