Nigerian Prison Escapee Arrested in Dominican Republic, Extradition to Haiti Underway
A Nigerian national, IK Egbor, has been arrested by the Human Trafficking and Smuggling Investigation Department of the Dominican Republic’s Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DICRIM). Wanted by Haitian authorities, Egbor was apprehended after attempting to obtain a travel document under the false claim of losing his identification.
Migration records revealed that Egbor had no legal entry into the Dominican Republic, leading to his detention. Authorities have linked him to a case involving human trafficking and smuggling, and his extradition to Haiti is currently being processed in collaboration with Haitian officials.
Haitian authorities have confirmed that Egbor escaped from prison on March 3, 2024, during a mass breakout. He had previously been arrested in 2022 at Toussaint Louverture International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs in his stomach while en route to Paris.
Following an international alert and a thorough investigation involving the General Directorate of Migration, Dominican authorities located and detained Egbor. He is now set to be extradited to Haiti’s Bureau for the Fight Against Drug Trafficking (BLTS/DCPJ) to face charges tied to his alleged criminal activities.
