Nigerian Police Officers Injured in Horrific Crash as Vehicle Plunges into Gully on Aba/Owerri Road
At least three Nigerian police officers have been injured in a terrifying accident on the Aba/Owerri Road on Tuesday morning. A Toyota Sienna, transporting members of the Nigerian Police Force, was involved in a serious crash when the vehicle reportedly somersaulted and fell into a gully. Eyewitnesses have stated that the cause of the crash remains unclear, but the aftermath was chaotic and distressing.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows the harrowing scene, with at least three officers unconscious on the ground. Several others appeared to be trapped inside the vehicle, while emergency responders and bystanders quickly arrived at the scene to assist in rescuing the injured officers.
In a disturbing moment, one of the officers, who was extricated from the wreckage, was overheard asking about his rifle despite sustaining visible injuries.
The Abia State Police Command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chioma Chinaka, confirmed she would provide more information after receiving an official briefing. Efforts to contact the Imo State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, were unsuccessful.
This incident follows a separate tragedy just days before, in which an officer from “Operation Crush,” the state’s Joint Task Force, lost his life in a lone road traffic crash on Sunday at Isieke along the Umuahia-Bende Road. According to a statement from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Abia State Command, eight officers were injured in that crash, which was reportedly caused by brake failure.
