Nigerian Police Inspector Dies While Watching Arsenal vs Real Madrid Match in Calabar
A Nigerian police officer, Inspector Stephen Enang, died on Tuesday night while watching the UEFA Champions League match between Arsenal and Real Madrid at a football viewing centre in Calabar, Cross River State.
Enang, who was attached to the Akim Police Division along IBB Way, was a passionate Arsenal supporter and a regular at the viewing centre located on Abang-Asang Street in Calabar Municipality. Witnesses said he showed no signs of illness prior to the game and was in high spirits as he celebrated each of Arsenal’s goals during the match.
A friend of the late officer, who requested anonymity, said Enang had been jubilant throughout the game but was found unresponsive in his seat after the final whistle. “He was hale and hearty before the match. We were all cheering together. After the third goal, he sat down quietly, waiting for the final whistle. It wasn’t until people began leaving that we noticed he hadn’t moved,” the friend recounted.
Enang was rushed to the Police Hospital at Akim, where medical personnel attempted to revive him. Sadly, all efforts to resuscitate him failed, and he was confirmed dead.
Attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River, Irene Ugbo, for an official comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to her phone line went unanswered.
