Nigerian Police Confirm Death of Female Banker Kidnapped in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a female banker, identified as Ifeoma, by suspected kidnappers despite her family paying a ransom for her release. The tragic incident occurred after Ifeoma was abducted in Onitsha, a major commercial hub in Anambra State, and held captive for several days.

According to reports, the kidnappers contacted the family to demand an undisclosed sum as ransom, which was paid in hopes of securing her freedom. However, Ifeoma was not released and her lifeless body was later found near Ideani Junction along the Nnobi-Alor Road in Idemili South Local Government Area.

Rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu drew attention to the case on social media, describing the shocking events and expressing frustration over the rising insecurity in the region. In a Facebook post, he lamented, “Lives are being taken daily and it’s sad nothing is being done to end all these killings. WHO IS NEXT? If we keep folding our hands and do nothing, it may get to you.”

A family member, speaking anonymously, confirmed the ransom was paid but suggested Ifeoma might have recognized her abductors, leading them to kill her to avoid exposure. The family is devastated by the loss, grappling with the harsh reality of the incident.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga acknowledged the discovery of the body, stating that it was recovered along the Nnobi-Alor Road. He confirmed that photos of the victim had been circulated to aid the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of her death.
