Nigerian Pastor Timothy Omotoso Set to Be Deported from South Africa
Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso is set to be deported from South Africa after opting to voluntarily leave the country following his recent re-arrest. Broadcast footage from SABC and Newsroom Afrika on Sunday, May 18, 2025, showed the 66-year-old pastor speaking with an immigration official at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport. While the exact time of his flight has not been disclosed, he is expected to depart the country today.
Omotoso was acquitted last month of 32 charges, including rape, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking, after spending eight years in prison. Despite his acquittal, he was re-arrested by immigration authorities in East London on May 10, 2025, reportedly over issues related to his residency status. His decision to leave South Africa appears to have followed that development.
