Nigerian Man Shot D3ad by Suspected Cultists at Durban Bar
A Nigerian man identified as Chimezie was shot d3ad by suspected cultists at a bar in the Durban area of South Africa. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, while Chimezie, who worked as a bartender, was attending to customers.
A source familiar with the case told Punch that two unidentified assailants entered the bar, approached Chimezie, and opened fire. “He had just resumed work that evening and was busy attending to customers when two men walked up to him. They had barely spoken for a minute when one of them opened fire. He was shot multiple times, and then they ran out. Other patrons fled for safety,” the source said. Chimezie was found unresponsive and pronounced d3ad at the scene.
The killing is suspected to be linked to cult-related activities. A video shared by Naija Confra, a platform known for exposing cult-related incidents, showed the deceased lying face down inside the bar. According to the platform, Chimezie had moved from Johannesburg to Durban for work and was employed at a bar in the Phoenix area of the city.
The President of the Nigerian Union in South Africa, Mr. Smart Nwobi, confirmed the incident and said efforts are ongoing to collaborate with South African authorities to curb gang-related killings. “We have been working with law enforcement to bring an end to gang-related attacks and killings,” he stated. Nwobi noted that such incidents, while sporadic, are more frequent in Durban. No arrests have been made so far.
