Nigerian Government Provides Update on N50,000 Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme

The Nigerian Federal Government has issued an update regarding its N50,000 Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme, aimed at citizens across the 774 local government areas. Applicants are now instructed to watch for SMS notifications to link their applications with their National Identity Numbers (NIN).

Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Investment, made this announcement through her official X account on Sunday, emphasizing the necessity for applicants’ NIN to match for processing, in accordance with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s NIN-Account number linkage requirement.

In her statement, Minister Uzoka-Anite expressed gratitude to all applicants for their interest in the Presidential Conditional Grant Programme and assured that applications are under meticulous processing. She highlighted the new requirement from the Central Bank of Nigeria, mandating the linkage of NINs with bank accounts, and clarified that the ministry lacks records of applicants’ NINs.

To facilitate this process, applicants will receive SMS notifications from ‘FGGRANTLOAN’ containing instructions to submit their NIN information via a secure link. Only verified applicants will receive this notification, and strict adherence to matching NINs with applicant names is emphasized.

The statement further conveyed appreciation for applicants’ patience and cooperation, promising to provide updates on application progress. The scheme, initially slated to commence on March 9, 2024, aims to provide financial grants to eligible small business owners in Nigeria, without repayment obligations.
