FG Launches National Talent Export Programme to Combat Unemployment
In a bid to address the pressing issue of unemployment, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the ‘National Talent Export Programme (NATEP),’ a strategic initiative aimed at generating one million jobs over the course of the next five years. This announcement was made by the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, during the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The event, titled ‘Positioning Nigeria as a Global Talent Hub,’ showcased Nigeria’s commitment to fostering economic diversification and sustainability, with a focus on creating job opportunities for the nation’s youth.
The National Talent Export Programme (NATEP) represents a significant step forward in aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria. President Tinubu’s agenda emphasizes the need to diversify the Nigerian economy while creating ample opportunities for its youthful population, with the ambitious goal of generating approximately 50 million jobs.
Minister Uzoka-Anite highlighted the pivotal role NATEP would play in achieving these objectives. She stated, “NATEP is a key national initiative that will serve as a special purpose vehicle to position Nigeria as a leading global hub for service export, talent sourcing, and talent export.”
Elaborating further on the program’s scope and objectives, she added, “As part of our strategy towards achieving this, His Excellency President Bola Tinubu, whose agenda for job creation we have embraced, initiated a national talent export program for Nigeria. This program targets the creation of one million jobs across Nigeria over five years.”
The National Talent Export Programme (NATEP) is set to not only combat unemployment but also establish Nigeria as a prominent player in the global talent marketplace. Its multifaceted approach will encompass service export, talent acquisition, and talent export, aiming to tap into Nigeria’s vast pool of skilled individuals and connect them with opportunities both within the country and abroad.
It is worth noting that President Bola Tinubu led the Nigerian delegation to the UNGA, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to addressing unemployment and positioning itself as a global talent hub. The launch of NATEP marks a significant stride towards achieving these goals, offering hope and prospects to millions of Nigerians seeking employment and contributing to the country’s economic growth.
