Nigerian Government Allocates N2.5 Billion to Senate President Akpabio for Constituency Projects

It has come to light that the Nigerian government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has approved a staggering sum of N2.5 billion for Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The funds are designated for the procurement of various items, including deep freezers, generators, and other empowerment projects for his constituency.

A screenshot of the budget, shared by prominent social media critic Mahdi Shehu, disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Women’s Affairs allocated five distinct empowerment projects for the people of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, each valued at N500 million.

The projects, aimed at bolstering the economic activities in the region, include the provision of deep freezers, generators, and other empowerment items to enhance the daily earnings of residents in the two local government areas of Ikono and Abak.

Meanwhile, Senator Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, revealed on Tuesday that certain “senior” senators received N500 million each from the 2024 budget. This disclosure comes amidst allegations of budget padding made by Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District.

Ningi accused the Senate leadership of inflating the 2024 budget by N3.7 trillion, asserting that the National Assembly passed a budget of N25 trillion for the fiscal year. He further highlighted discrepancies between the passed budget and the N28.7 trillion being implemented by the federal government.

The allegations sparked public outcry, with many Nigerians expressing outrage and directing criticism towards Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Senator Ningi’s claims have led to his suspension pending further investigation.
