Nigerian Duo Captured, Extradited to U.S. for Sextortion Case Linked to Young Man’s Death
U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced today that Imoleayo Samuel Aina, 26, and Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, 24, were extradited from Nigeria to face charges in the United States related to a case of sexual extortion that resulted in the death of a young man in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Aina faces charges of cyberstalking, interstate threats to injure reputation, and receiving extortion proceeds, while both Aina and Abiodun are charged with wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy. The pair was arrested in Nigeria on July 31, 2024, following a complaint and subsequent investigation by the FBI. Their extradition was facilitated by the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, and Nigerian authorities, including the Attorney General of the Federation and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The defendants were brought to the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Elizabeth T. Hey in Philadelphia on August 2. If convicted, Aina faces a potential life sentence, while Abiodun could receive up to 40 years in prison.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Brown, with investigations led by the FBI and the Abington Township Police Department. It is important to note that an indictment or complaint represents an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
