Nigerian-born Margaret Obi Appointed High Court Judge in England and Wales

Nigerian-born British lawyer Mrs Margaret Obi has been appointed as a High Court Judge in England and Wales, marking a historic milestone as the first African-born person to hold the position.

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, announced the development while congratulating her in a post on X titled “Celebrating Excellence Beyond Borders.” He described her appointment as a remarkable testament to dedication, professionalism, and the global success of Nigerians.

Obi highlighted Mrs Obi’s impressive career, noting her over 27 years of legal practice and seven years of judicial service, which he said exemplify “hard work, integrity, and professional excellence.”

Clarifying any confusion regarding their names, Obi stated that Mrs Margaret Obi is not his wife, explaining that his spouse goes by the name Mrs Margaret Peter-Obi.

He commended the new judge’s achievement as a proud moment for Nigerians worldwide and urged that such milestones should inspire the creation of systems that enable excellence to flourish within Nigeria itself.
