Nigerian-American Woman Returns $5,700 Found in U.S. Workplace
Victoria Ogunremi, a Nigerian-American woman based in New Jersey, has been widely praised for her honesty after returning $5,700 in cash that she found in the restroom at her workplace.
Ogunremi, in a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), explained that her decision to return the money was driven by concern for the person who lost it. She described how the thought of the distress it could cause motivated her to act without hesitation. Citing her Christian faith and upbringing, she emphasized that honesty brings peace of mind and is a virtue she holds dear.
Before notifying her employer, Ogunremi took steps to identify the rightful owner of the money. Her act of integrity drew admiration from colleagues, with many expressing that they were not surprised by her kindness. The management of her workplace commended her for her exemplary behavior, while the owner of the money was overwhelmed with gratitude.
Ogunremi attributed her moral values to her late father’s teachings, recalling how he instilled in her the principle of never taking what does not belong to her. She expressed her hope of passing the same values to future generations, stressing that integrity is priceless.
Her story has resonated with many, serving as a reminder that acts of honesty still shine brightly in today’s world.
