Nigeria Not as Dangerous as US – American Rapper DDG
American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., known professionally as DDG, has criticised what he described as misleading Western media narratives about Nigeria, saying the country is not as dangerous as often portrayed.
The hip-hop artist, who is currently visiting Lagos, said Nigeria is “nowhere near” as dangerous as the United States, contrary to claims frequently circulated in Western media.
In a video shared online, DDG argued that while Nigeria faces security challenges, gun violence and gang-related crime are more prevalent in the US.
“I honestly think America is the most dangerous country,” he said. “I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America – nowhere near. There is insecurity here, no doubt, but gun violence and gangsterism are not as common as in America.”
He encouraged foreigners to visit Nigeria and experience the country firsthand rather than relying on media reports.
DDG also disclosed that before his trip, he was warned that Nigerian food was unhealthy and advised to boil water before drinking. However, he said his experience in Nigeria contradicted those claims.
According to the rapper, Nigerian meals were healthy, with jollof rice standing out as a favourite.
