Nigeria is Rotten; Citizens Expecting Miracle from Tinubu,” Says Wike
In a recent statement, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike described Nigeria as a “rotten country” while addressing the expectations placed on President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Speaking to journalists after inspecting the long-delayed Karshi to Apo Road construction project, Mr. Wike criticized Nigerians for their impatience, noting the country’s complex issues cannot be resolved overnight.
Mr. Wike emphasized that the frustration among Nigerians, while understandable due to hunger and unemployment, should not lead to unrealistic expectations. He asserted, “A government has just come to see what it can do to at least move it from where we are to a certain level, and you say that miracle must be performed within one year.”
The minister dismissed the upcoming protests against President Tinubu’s administration as politically motivated, stating, “Let’s tell ourselves the simple truth. If we are playing politics, let’s say we are playing politics. If we want to be sincere to ourselves, let’s be sincere to ourselves and help our country.”
Addressing the stagnation of the Karshi to Apo Road project, awarded 13 years ago, Mr. Wike highlighted the inefficiencies of previous administrations and the daunting task the current government faces in rectifying longstanding issues. “What has happened? Nothing. Now a government has come to see how it can fix all these things and we are in too much of a hurry demanding that it must be done now,” he remarked.
Mr. Wike also called out those he referred to as “political jobbers” and stressed the importance of giving the government time to implement its plans. “We are going to elections very soon. These are political gimmicks. Just know that the government is a serious government and working to solve the problem. We believe that things will turn around, but we should be patient with the government,” he concluded.
Protests are being organized by various groups across Nigeria to highlight issues of hunger and insecurity. While some factions have distanced themselves from the protests, others insist they are necessary to draw attention to the country’s struggles.
