“‘Nigeria is dying, save it’: Youths rally in Abuja urge Jonathan to enter 2027 presidential race”
Hundreds of young people on Wednesday gathered outside the Abuja residence of Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan, calling on him to enter the 2027 presidential race.
The rally, organised under the Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan, caused traffic disruption around the Maitama area of Abuja as participants sang, danced, and displayed placards urging his return to national politics.
Some of the placards carried direct messages appealing for his intervention in the country’s current situation, including calls for him to “save the country” and to consider another run for office.
The group was led by its national president, Tom Ohikere, who said the mobilisation followed six months of consultations across different parts of the country.
According to him, the visits revealed consistent support for Jonathan’s return, with many participants describing him as a stabilising figure capable of addressing national challenges.
Security and crowd control became an issue as the demonstrators waited for several hours without gaining access to Jonathan. He was not present during the protest period.
Reports indicate that he arrived at his residence in Maitama after the crowd had already left.
The demonstration adds to a growing number of public appeals from groups within Nigeria and abroad encouraging Jonathan to consider a return to electoral politics ahead of 2027.
