“Don’t Put 2027 Polls In Jeopardy”: ACF Urges Tinubu, INEC To Retrace Steps

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reconsider recent decisions, warning they could undermine the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement addressing the current political climate, ACF expressed concern that ongoing developments may heighten tensions in a country already grappling with security challenges and economic difficulties.

ACF National Publicity Secretary, T. A. Muhammad-Baba, criticised INEC’s voter revalidation exercise and recent actions affecting the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), previously led by David Mark.

He described the developments as troubling, suggesting that individuals who have benefited from Nigeria’s democratic system may now be acting in ways that could weaken it. According to him, the voter revalidation initiative, in particular, raises concerns about its potential impact on electoral stability.

The forum warned that recent steps by electoral authorities and political actors could create conditions that threaten the integrity of the 2027 polls. It called on all stakeholders to adhere to democratic principles and avoid actions that might trigger political unrest.

ACF further cautioned that Nigeria cannot afford an additional crisis, noting that insecurity and economic hardship remain pressing national issues. It stressed that any political instability could further strain national security.

The group concluded by appealing to the federal government, INEC, and other relevant actors to reverse course where necessary and prioritise measures that strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
