Nigeria Immigration Dismisses Female Officer for Masterminding Brother’s Abduction in Enugu, Sanctions 31 Others
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed one of its officers, Chukwu Nancy Ngozi, for masterminding the abduction of her elder brother. Ngozi, along with another junior officer, Aliyu Usman, was found guilty of criminal conspiracy, theft, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping following internal disciplinary proceedings concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025.
In a statement by the Service’s spokesperson, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) also reviewed 31 disciplinary cases involving NIS personnel after receiving recommendations from its Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee, which met on July 11, 2025. Akinlabi said eight officers were dismissed for serious misconduct and violation of Service regulations, while five others were compulsorily retired for offences related to misconduct. Eight officers were demoted by one rank, and five received written warnings.
He added that the Board considered appeals from dismissed officers, rejecting two for lack of merit, reinstating one after a successful appeal, and exonerating two others of all charges. Akinlabi emphasized that the disciplinary actions reaffirm the Service’s commitment to upholding professionalism and integrity across all ranks, assuring the public that such measures would continue to be enforced without bias.
It will be recalled that in July, the Enugu State Police Command arrested Chukwu Nancy Ngozi and her sister, Juliet Chukwu, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of their elder brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu. The incident occurred along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, where a ransom of N30 million was reportedly paid for his release. The sisters, both from Amaeze village in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, were also linked to the kidnapping of Mr. Dennis Igwe, General Manager of China Oriental Mining Company, in the same area.
