Nestle Sales Representative Dies in Abeokuta While Watching AFCON Semi-Final Clash
A 43-year-old sales representative, Mikail Osundiji, employed by Nestle, a multinational manufacturing company in Nigeria, met an untimely demise while watching the AFCON semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Osundiji, a father of two and native of Osun State, reportedly suffered a fatal shock after the center referee controversially disallowed Nigeria’s second goal, scored by striker Victor Osimhen. The incident unfolded at a football viewing center in the Federal Housing Estate, Olomoore, Abeokuta, where Osundiji had been enjoying the match.
Witnesses at the scene revealed that Osundiji displayed no signs of illness before the football encounter. However, immediately following the referee’s decision, he reportedly took a deep breath, lowered his head, and collapsed. Bystanders rushed him to a nearby private hospital in Olomoore, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
The deceased’s elder sister, Mrs. Adetunji Nofisat, expressed shock over the sudden loss of her brother. She shared that Osundiji was laid to rest on Thursday afternoon in accordance with Islamic rites. Due to family ties, the body could not be transported to Okuku in Osun State.
In a heartfelt plea, Mrs. Nofisat called upon the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to extend assistance to the grieving family. She specifically appealed for scholarships to be provided for Osundiji’s two children, aged 12 and 7, to ensure they can complete their education up to the university level.
