NDLEA Foils Drug Trafficking Attempts Across Nigeria, Abroad, Seizes 300,000 Tramadol Pills from Pakistan

In a major crackdown on illicit drug activities, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a substantial shipment of Canadian Loud, a potent synthetic strain of cannabis. The seizure, carried out in the Onikan area of Lagos Island, uncovered 324 bags weighing a total of 111.2 kilograms. The suspect, 42-year-old Taofeek Yusuf, was apprehended while transporting the contraband in an unregistered Grand Caravan vehicle.

This significant operation follows closely on the heels of the arrest of Godwin ThankGod, a drug trafficking suspect bound for Milan, Italy. On Thursday, NDLEA officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport detained ThankGod, who was attempting to board a flight with codeine-based syrup and rohypnol concealed in his luggage.

Meanwhile, additional seizures included 300,000 tramadol pills from a consignment arriving from Pakistan and the bust of a clandestine skuchies factory in Ibadan, where a variety of psychoactive substances were recovered.

In a coordinated effort, NDLEA operatives in Lagos intercepted tramadol and cannabis shipments destined for Oman and the United Kingdom, concealed ingeniously in sports canvas shoes and spices, respectively.

The agency’s operations extended to Ondo and Edo states, resulting in the arrest of individuals in possession of large quantities of cannabis. Notably, raids in Ibadan uncovered a skuchies factory operated by Oyadeji Dimeji.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers involved in the successful operations and urged them to maintain their momentum. The War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign also continued, with sensitization lectures and visits conducted across various locations in the country.
