“NDC Will Decide If I Become Presidential Candidate or Obi’s Running Mate” — Kwankwaso
Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso says the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will determine whether he emerges as the party’s presidential candidate or serves as running mate to Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the remarks while responding to questions about a possible alliance with Obi under the NDC platform.
“That is a decision the party will make,” he said when asked if he would accept a vice-presidential position.
The former governor, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), secured 1,496,687 votes nationwide in the poll.
He also said the NDC had not yet decided whether its presidential ticket would be zoned to the North or the South.
“This debate is still ongoing within the NDC party on whether the presidential ticket should remain in the North or be moved to the South,” Kwankwaso said.
“I am certain that within the next few days, it will be resolved and we will know the appropriate decision.”
Obi and Kwankwaso recently announced their defection to the NDC, citing internal disputes and legal battles within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
