“NATCOM Activities on Hold Until Presidential Assent,” Says Dr. Mohammed

In a recent announcement from Abuja, Dr. Baba Mohammed, the proponent of the bill establishing the National Commission for the Coordination and Control of Small Arms, Ammunitions, and Light Weapons (NATCOM), clarified that all activities related to the proposed commission remain suspended pending the presidential assent of the bill.

The statement, issued by Dr. David Olaitan, Co-ordinating Director of Human Resources for the proposed NATCOM, emphasized the need for restraint among the commission’s supporters and the general public. Dr. Mohammed cautioned against any involvement in illegal activities that could disrupt national peace, warning that violators would face legal consequences.

“Members of the commission across the country have been repeatedly advised to refrain from making unauthorized comments, posting on social media, or engaging in any form of communication that could be considered unguarded while awaiting the President’s approval of the NATCOM bill,” the statement read.

The public was also advised to avoid engaging in any financial transactions on behalf of the proposed commission, with Dr. Olaitan stressing that the officials of NATCOM are committed to upholding the law.

Furthermore, the statement distanced Dr. Mohammed and NATCOM from any negative remarks directed at government agencies that have surfaced on social media platforms.

Dr. Mohammed expressed gratitude towards President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, for their efforts to enhance the nation.

He also commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, DSS Director General Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, NIA Director General Mohammed Mohammed, and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, along with other security stakeholders, for their relentless dedication to building a safer Nigeria.
