Federal High Court Remands NATCOM Director-General, Adegbenro in Kuje Prison for Alleged Fraud, Impersonation
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Adejare Adegbenro, Director-General of the National Commission against the Proliferation of Arms, Light Weapons, and Pipeline Vandalism (NATCOM), in Kuje prison. Adegbenro faces charges of fraud, impersonation, and involvement in gun-running.
Adegbenro was apprehended in April by the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) of the Nigeria Police Force following an extensive investigation into his alleged illegal activities. He is accused of impersonating government officials and engaging in fraudulent schemes.
During the hearing on Monday, Adegbenro was arraigned under suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/246/2024. One of the charges brought against him states that he conspired with others to commit acts of terrorism by establishing an unauthorized organization, NATCOM, which is prejudicial to national security. This alleged offense falls under Section 26 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Prosecutor David Sunday presented the case on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Following the proceedings, the court ordered Adegbenro’s remand in Kuje prison, with the case adjourned to June 17, 2024.
