Natasha: Edo South Constituents Seek Recall of Senator Neda Imasuen, Chair of Senate Ethics Committee, Write INEC

Constituents of Edo South Senatorial District have issued a 14-day notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerian Senate, and anti-corruption agencies to act on a petition seeking the recall of their senator, Neda Imasuen.

The group, expressing a loss of confidence in the Labour Party (LP) lawmaker, is demanding his recall over allegations of failure, corruption, abuse of office, and betrayal of public trust. They are also calling for his prosecution over his alleged disbarment by the New York State Supreme Court in 2010.

Imasuen, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, has been embroiled in controversy following a sexual harassment petition filed by suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Representatives from five of the seven local government areas in the district held a press briefing in Benin City, Edo State, emphasizing the need for credible, accountable, and transparent leadership. The representatives, including Kola Edokpayi (Oredo), Caesar Garrick (Ikpoba-Okha), Aghatise Raphael (Ovia South West), Ogbu David (Uhunwode), Okorie Kingsley (Ovia North East), and Hanson Orako (Egor), accused Imasuen of neglecting his constituents and failing to implement any constituency projects.

They further called for international cooperation, including INTERPOL’s involvement, to ensure a thorough and independent investigation into the allegations.

In response, Senator Imasuen dismissed the claims, alleging that those pushing for his removal were acting on behalf of political interests in Kogi State.

“They are doing a hatchet job because they are being paid from Kogi,” Imasuen said. “I don’t see why someone is being paid to throw stones at his father’s house.”
