Naira Weakens Slightly Against Dollar on Official Market
The Nigerian naira recorded a slight depreciation against the US dollar on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, just a day after making gains in the official foreign exchange market.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira fell to N1,529.22 per dollar, down from N1,528.33 recorded on Monday. This represents a day-on-day loss of 89 kobo.
Despite the dip in the official market, the naira held steady in the parallel market, where it traded at N1,550 to the dollar—the same rate as the previous day.
The decline comes after a brief appreciation on Monday, reflecting ongoing volatility in the currency market. In the first half of 2025, the naira averaged N1,556 per dollar at the official rate.
