Naira Starts Week Strong as Official Rate Rises Against Dollar
The Naira opened the week on a positive note, gaining strength against the US dollar in Monday’s official trading. Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria shows the currency closing at N1,453.84 to the dollar, an improvement from the previous Friday’s rate of N1,456.72. The latest movement reflects a gain of N2.88 as trading resumed for the week.
Activity in the parallel market offered little change, with the Naira holding steady at N1,465 to the dollar. The currency’s advance at the official window comes as Nigeria’s external reserves climbed to $44.26 billion as of November 21, according to figures released by the central bank.
The uptick follows a week in which the Naira posted more declines than gains, making Monday’s appreciation a notable shift in direction.
