Naira Edges Up as Nigeria’s Reserves Near $40 Billion
The Naira recorded a marginal appreciation against the US dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Thursday, buoyed by a steady rise in Nigeria’s external reserves.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed the local currency closing at N1,533.73 per dollar, compared to N1,534.44 on Wednesday — a gain of 70 kobo.
In contrast, rates in the parallel market held steady at N1,565 per dollar, unchanged from the previous day.
The currency movement comes as Nigeria’s external reserves rose to $39.99 billion as of August 6, 2025, up from $39.81 billion on August 4, according to CBN figures.
Over the past four trading days, the Naira has experienced mixed performance, alternating between gains and losses against major currencies.
