“My Husband is Not Greedy, He’s Working for a Better Future” – First Lady Oluremi Tinubu
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has firmly stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the progress of Nigeria, driven by a vision of a better future rather than personal gain.
Speaking during a visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and other traditional rulers at the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, the First Lady emphasized that her husband’s leadership is grounded in contentment and dedication to national development. The occasion also marked the commissioning of the 2.7-kilometer “Oluremi Tinubu Way” and a Pavilion at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), a project constructed in her honor by the revered monarch.
Addressing the traditional rulers and the public, Senator Tinubu urged Nigerians to continue supporting the administration’s reforms, which she noted are already yielding positive results despite challenges such as the removal of fuel subsidies.
“With God’s help, in the next two years, Nigeria will be greater than it is today. We need your prayers and support to build a nation ready for the future,” she said. Reflecting on their journey, she added, “My husband and I are not greedy. We thank God for His blessings, and we are committed to ensuring that Nigeria reaches its full potential.”
Senator Tinubu also took the opportunity to engage with students at OAU’s Oduduwa Hall, encouraging them to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). She highlighted the administration’s priority on education, with particular emphasis on youth development.
“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is focused on ensuring all youths have access to quality education, regardless of their financial situation,” she stated. The National Students Loan Scheme, she said, is one of the key initiatives aimed at helping young Nigerians achieve their educational goals.
Through her own initiative, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Tinubu revealed that scholarships and laptops are being provided to 47 underprivileged students across the country through the National Scholarship Program (NASP). Each student is awarded ₦1 million annually throughout their academic journey.
Additionally, the First Lady highlighted her involvement in the #WeAreEqual campaign, part of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). Through this, she reintroduced the Alternative High School for Girls, an educational initiative that gives a second chance to girls who dropped out of school due to early marriage or other challenges.
In recognition of her contributions to education and social development, Ooni Ogunwusi honored Senator Tinubu by naming the newly constructed road at OAU the “Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way” and unveiling a golden statue in her honor. The road, equipped with solar-powered streetlights, is a symbol of her efforts to uplift youth, women, and the underprivileged in society.
“The road and pavilion are dedicated to her as a testament to her tireless efforts in education and development. Her progressive nature is reflected in these projects, which provide spaces for learning, growth, and empowerment,” the Ooni stated during the ceremony.
