“Critics of Tinubu’s UK Vacation Are Uninformed” – Doyin Okupe

Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision to take a two-week holiday in the United Kingdom, labeling criticisms of the trip as “uninformed.”

In an interview on Thursday, Okupe addressed the backlash over the president choosing to vacation abroad during a time of national challenges. He argued that Tinubu’s decision was strategic, allowing him time for reflection and planning away from the distractions of political associates.

“I have read many uninformed criticisms of the President’s holiday trip abroad,” Okupe said. “From my understanding, the President has intentionally distanced himself from officials and associates to reflect on the past 17 months and chart a new course for his administration.”

Okupe emphasized that Tinubu’s retreat would help him avoid undue interference and focus on reshuffling his cabinet. He added that the peaceful environment abroad is essential for this process, something that would be difficult to achieve within Nigeria.

Okupe expressed confidence that Tinubu’s return would bring positive changes for Nigerians, signaling a renewed focus on economic reforms and relief for the masses.

The trip has drawn criticism from various quarters, with many questioning the timing of the vacation amid economic challenges in Nigeria. However, Okupe believes that the president’s time away will ultimately benefit the nation.
