“My Ambassadorial Appointment Is to Serve Nigeria, Not Tinubu” — Reno Omokri
Ambassador-designate Reno Omokri has clarified that his recent appointment is intended to serve the nation rather than President Bola Tinubu personally.
In a Channels Television interview on Wednesday, Omokri said his acceptance of the role reflects his commitment to Nigeria, despite his past criticisms of the president.
Addressing earlier statements suggesting he would not work with Tinubu, Omokri explained, “The question asked was: if Tinubu invited me to work with him, would I accept? I said no, it’s not in my DNA. But I never said I cannot serve Nigeria.”
He stressed that his ambassadorial duties are focused on national service. “As an ambassador, I’m going to work for Nigeria. I will be an ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
Omokri also noted he was transparent with government officials about the limits imposed by his past positions. “I explicitly said I cannot do this or that because of my past statements. But I made it clear I can take this role because it serves the country,” he added.
On his view of President Tinubu, Omokri said it has evolved. “My position on President Tinubu has changed. I believe he is the best thing for Nigeria,” he concluded.
