Mother, Three Children Die After Consuming Rice
A mother and her three children have died, reportedly after consuming a meal of rice at their home in the Oshin area along Asa Dam Road. The incident occurred on Saturday, and the family has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
The deceased children, identified as Abibat (9), Zainab (7), and Abdulfatai (5), along with their mother, fell ill shortly after consuming the meal. According to sources, the family had prepared rice for breakfast before the parents left the house that morning. Upon returning in the evening, the mother began preparing dinner and noticed that her eldest daughter, who had been sleeping, was unresponsive, cold, and showing signs of distress.
The girl was rushed to Oreofe Hospital, but was subsequently referred to the Ilorin General Hospital and then to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), where she was pronounced dead. Tragically, when the family returned home, they found the other two children exhibiting similar symptoms. Despite immediate medical attention at UITH, they also passed away on Sunday.
The mother, who began vomiting later that day, was rushed to the hospital, where she too succumbed in the early hours of Monday. The father, who also consumed the meal, has been admitted to the hospital for tests, leaving only one surviving son, Muhammad Basheer.
The family patriarch, Alhaji Jagunmolu Adinni, received a stream of sympathizers at his home on Monday night. Speaking about the tragic loss, he expressed his acceptance of the incident as a trial from Almighty Allah. The incident is suspected to be a case of food poisoning, although investigations are ongoing to confirm the exact cause of death.
