Mob Strips Pastor and Married Woman Naked Over Alleged Affair in Edo Community
A pastor and a married woman were publicly humiliated in the Iguomon community on the outskirts of Benin City, Edo State, following accusations of an extramarital affair. A video that surfaced online on Monday shows a crowd stripping both individuals naked while mocking them.
Eyewitnesses allege the two were caught in a compromising situation, prompting a group of angry youths to drag the man out of a residence. He was stripped and forced to sit on the ground, while the woman was also pulled outside and stripped by a female member of the crowd. The incident attracted a large number of onlookers, many of whom recorded the scene on their phones.
Reacting to the incident, human rights activist Marxist Kola Edokpayi of the Talakawa Parliament condemned the mob’s actions and criticized the use of jungle justice. He called for due legal process, stating that the police should have been contacted instead.
The Edo State Police Command, through its spokesperson Moses Yamu, said the incident had not yet been officially reported. Yamu noted that the police cannot take action based solely on a viral video and urged anyone with information to formally report the case.
