Mob Beats Man to Death for Raping Disabled Woman, Mutilates and Drags Body Through Streets
A man accused of sexually assaulting a disabled woman in Gowa, Indonesia, was brutally killed by a mob in Rappolemba after locals took the law into their own hands. The victim, identified only as T, was discovered battered and in shock on November 30, sparking outrage across the community.
The suspect, 47-year-old Ali, fled immediately after the alleged attack, first seeking refuge at a relative’s home and later hiding in a nearby forest. On December 3, he emerged from the woods in search of food and was quickly recognized by passersby. Enraged villagers attacked him on the spot, reportedly beating him to death, mutilating his genitals, and dragging his lifeless body through the streets. The horrifying attack was captured on video and circulated widely on social media.
Police quickly arrived at the scene, led by Senior Adjunct Commissioner Muhammad Aldy Sulaeman, Gowa Police Chief. Authorities confirmed the videos of the attack and said they had coordinated with the Tompobulu Police to regain control of the situation. “The situation at the location is now under control,” Sulaeman said, adding that investigations are ongoing to establish the full sequence of events.
Several police units are involved in the investigation, including the medical team for post-mortem examinations, the Criminal Investigation Unit, the Samapta Unit, the Intelligence Unit, and the Community Policing Unit, with support from the South Sulawesi Regional Police Department.
Local residents described Ali as a repeat offender, previously serving prison time for theft and recently released. The brutal incident highlights growing concerns over vigilante justice in the region and has sparked national debate about law enforcement and community safety in Indonesia.
