JUST IN: Military Combat Drone Crashes in Kontagora Forest, Niger State
A Nigerian military combat drone has crashed in the Kontagora forest area of Niger State, sparking questions about ongoing aerial operations in the North-Central region.
SK Blog reports that the unmanned aerial vehicle went down on Friday under circumstances that are still unclear. A photograph circulating online shows the drone badly damaged and lying in a forested area. The aircraft did not explode on impact.
As of the time of reporting, it could not be independently confirmed where the drone was launched from or what mission it was carrying out before the crash.
Neither the Nigerian military nor the Niger State government has issued an official statement on the incident.
The crash comes amid heightened scrutiny of military air operations across parts of northern Nigeria.
