JUST IN: Nigerian Senator Dies in Indian Hospital
Senator Godiya Akwashiki, representing Nasarawa North under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has died at the age of 52 after a long illness. He passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at a hospital in India, a family source confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.
The source described Akwashiki’s death as a significant loss, highlighting his dedication to the development of his constituency and various empowerment initiatives. “He was the most impactful Senator Nasarawa North has ever had. His projects can be seen across the constituency, and he remains the only Senator from the zone to have been re-elected for a second term,” the source said.
Before his election to the Nigerian Senate in 2019, Akwashiki served as Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State, Akwashiki’s political career was marked by a focus on constituency development and leadership that resonated with his constituents.
