Military Chiefs, Senators Hold Closed-Door Meeting: Details Revealed
In response to the recent attack on soldiers in the Okuoma community of Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria’s military chiefs have committed to leveraging artificial intelligence and other technological tools to track down the assailants.
The announcement came after a closed-door meeting between the service chiefs and the Senate Joint Committee on Defence, Army, Navy, and Airforce, chaired by former Senate President Ahmad Lawan. During the meeting, lasting over two hours, discussions revolved around the killing of military personnel and strategies to apprehend the perpetrators.
Senator Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, revealed to reporters that part of the resolutions included the adoption of technological devices such as artificial intelligence to locate the hideouts of the attackers. He emphasized the importance of employing technology in enhancing the military’s capabilities.
Furthermore, Senator Daniel underscored the commitment to ensuring that only those found guilty would face consequences for their actions, with the National Assembly pledging ongoing support through additional funding for the armed forces.
Former Governor of Ogun State and Senator, Gbenga Daniel, reiterated the importance of prioritizing the equipping and retraining of the armed forces within the constraints of limited resources. He commended President Bola Tinubu for directing the military to identify the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
Chairman Lawan echoed the Senate’s solidarity with the armed forces, affirming their commitment to supporting ongoing efforts to address security challenges. He assured the public that the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice swiftly.
The attack, which resulted in the deaths of 17 soldiers, including four officers, has drawn widespread condemnation across Nigeria. President Tinubu has directed the military to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing the importance of securing lives and property.
The Senate anticipates further meetings with the service chiefs to gather additional information and ensure swift action in addressing security concerns across the country.
