Defence Minister Meets Service Chiefs Over Rising Insecurity
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, is holding a high-level security meeting with the country’s top military leaders at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting comes amid growing security concerns following a series of attacks on military positions in Nigeria’s North-East.
Sources indicate that the discussions are focused on the recent escalation of violence in the region, where armed groups have targeted military facilities. Several bases have reportedly come under attack in recent days.
The situation has also been marked by the deaths of three Nigerian Army commanding officers—each holding the rank of lieutenant colonel—who were killed during operations in Borno State.
Those attending the meeting include the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Aneke; and the Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abass.
Representatives of security agencies, including the National Intelligence Agency, are also participating in the deliberations.
Officials have not yet released details of the outcomes of the meeting, but it is expected to address the recent security setbacks and review the military’s response to threats in the North-East.
