Men Avoid Dating Me Because I’m a Divorcee, Single Mum – Kaffy

Renowned Nigerian dancer and choreographer, Kafayat ‘Kaffy’ Shafau, has opened up about the challenges she faces in finding love again after her divorce.

Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, the 45-year-old revealed that many men shy away from dating her because she is a single mother of two.

“I have had someone tell me that because I am a single mother, he cannot think about dating me since I have two children,” she said.

Kaffy, who was previously married to music producer and director Joseph Ameh before their split in 2022, questioned why divorce is often treated as a stigma. She argued that women who have healed from failed marriages may, in fact, be better partners.

“What makes you think a woman that has been divorced is not the better candidate if she has worked on herself?” she asked. “What is the guarantee that two single people today will not be divorced tomorrow?”

The award-winning dancer also criticised societal expectations that prioritise marrying “fresh” partners, despite statistics indicating that more than 70 percent of marriages eventually end in divorce.

Kaffy further reflected on love and emotional healing, emphasising that “real love brings peace, not butterflies.” She said she continues to recover from the anxieties of her past relationship while staying true to her values.

“I know how responsible I am as a woman. I don’t sleep around. I don’t do casual sex,” she noted.
