Melaye Reacts As Appeal Court Sacks Him From Senate
The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye has reacted to Friday’s Appeal Court judgement that nullified his victory at the 2019 National Assembly election.
In a short statement issued via his Twitter account, Melaye thanked God despite the unfavourable judgement. He called on his supporters to remain law abiding.
“I just lost my election at the Appeal Court and fresh election ordered.
“In all things, I give God Praise. He who started a good thing will definitely complete it. I ask my supporters to be law-abiding as we shall always overcome. To God be the Glory” he said.
The Appellate Court sitting in Abuja affirmed the judgement of the Kogi State National and State Assembly Tribunal that nullified Melaye’s election after his closest rival, Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approached it seeking the nullification of the election on the grounds of irregularities.
The Appeal Court has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh Poll in the senatorial district within 90 days.
