Mbah Approves N80,000 Minimum Wage for Enugu State Workers
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has approved an N80,000 minimum wage for workers in the state, effective from October 2024. The announcement was made through his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.
Governor Mbah stated, “I have just approved a minimum wage of N80,000 for Enugu workers, effective October 2024. We appreciate the hard work and sacrifices of the state’s workforce and will continue to prioritise their welfare in line with our campaign promises.”
This move comes as part of a broader trend across several Nigerian states following the recent minimum wage increase signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in July, which raised the baseline salary for workers from N30,000 to N70,000.
Other states, including Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Rivers, have also announced similar adjustments. Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno approved an N80,000 minimum wage on Wednesday, while Lagos and Rivers State Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Siminalayi Fubara raised theirs to N85,000 in recent weeks.
