Massive Air Raid by Nigerian Forces Destroys Bandit Camps, Frees Hostages in Northwestern Nigeria
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) executed a series of airstrikes targeting terrorist camps across Zamfara and Kebbi states, resulting in the deaths of numerous insurgents. The coordinated night operations were part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and were launched after intelligence pinpointed key strongholds of notorious bandit leaders.
Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, disclosed in a statement that the offensive—dubbed “Operation FARAUTAR MUJIYA”—began on Friday and involved a range of independent, high-intensity air interdiction missions designed to dismantle the operational capabilities of terrorist groups in northwestern Nigeria.
According to Mr. Akinboyewa, the initial wave of attacks was executed on November 8, following confirmed intelligence about increased terrorist activities. The NAF deployed advanced surveillance and precision targeting to strike critical camps, including the heavily fortified Sangeko area in Zamfara near the Kebbi border, and an enclave around Asola Hill in Tsafe Local Government Area controlled by the notorious bandit leader Ado Aleiro.
“The strikes decimated a significant arms depot controlled by Aleiro, neutralized many of his fighters, and sent shockwaves through criminal networks, severely impairing their operations,” he stated. The attack was further validated by Battle Damage Assessments, showing substantial impact throughout the night and delivering a severe blow to the terrorists’ operations.
Amid the chaos of the strikes, several hostages held by the terrorists managed to escape and sought refuge in Kebbi State, according to Mr. Akinboyewa. Some of these former captives shared accounts of their courageous escape, expressing relief and gratitude for the operation.
These latest actions underscore the NAF’s intensified commitment to eliminating banditry and restoring peace in affected communities. “The success of these operations highlights the agility and resilience of the Nigerian Armed Forces, offering hope and assurance to residents who have endured prolonged insecurity,” Mr. Akinboyewa concluded.
