Many CBN Approvals Under Emefiele Didn’t Have Buhari’s Signature – Presidency
The Presidency discloses that numerous approvals for fund releases within the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during Godwin Emefiele’s tenure lacked the signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo on Channels Television, acknowledged President Tinubu’s support for Buhari’s administration. However, Ngelale emphasized that certain approvals within the CBN leading to the current economic state lacked President Buhari’s signature and knowledge.
Ngelale pointed out that while Buhari achieved milestones in infrastructure and ease of doing business, his lack of attention to CBN affairs contributed to the current economic challenges. President Tinubu, despite supporting Buhari, has refrained from disclosing detrimental economic events under his predecessor.
Highlighting the responsibility of the prior administration, Ngelale clarified that President Buhari’s decision to retain Emefiele in office contributed to certain problematic approvals. He underscored the need to acknowledge both the positive aspects of Buhari’s administration and the shortcomings in CBN’s management.
Ngelale referenced the alleged forged signature on the $6.2 million released by the CBN for foreign election observers, suggesting a potential discrepancy in Buhari’s involvement. Emefiele, initially appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan and later retained by Buhari, faces legal challenges related to corruption and forgery.
