Man Sets Himself on Fire Outside Trump Trial Venue
Emergency personnel rushed to respond to a harrowing scene outside the Manhattan courthouse where the criminal trial of former President Donald Trump is underway. Reports indicate that a man set himself on fire, prompting a swift reaction from officers to extinguish the flames.
The incident unfolded in close proximity to the courthouse where Trump stands trial for alleged involvement in a hush money cover-up case. Witnesses described a chaotic scene with burning clothes strewn in the park, which was swiftly locked down by authorities. Ambulances stood by nearby, ready to provide medical assistance.
“A male did light himself on fire outside of the Supreme Courthouse. We’re still gathering details from the field,” stated a spokesperson for the New York Police Department.
Although the fire department did not immediately respond to requests for comment, media outlets reported that the individual was swiftly taken away for medical treatment.
The unsettling event transpired in a park opposite the 100 Centre Street courthouse, a location often frequented by protesters, journalists, and locals enjoying their lunch breaks. Trump’s trial, the first of its kind for a former president, is being conducted under heavy security measures, including Secret Service officers and court police.
New York’s police department had previously announced a significant deployment to ensure the trial proceeds safely, acknowledging the unique challenges posed by the high-profile case.
