Man Sentenced to 18 Months in Jail for Using Paper to Purchase Motorcycle
A 20-year-old man, Jelili Isiaka, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by an Ojo Magistrates Court in Lagos for stealing a motorcycle worth N700,000. The judgment was delivered on Wednesday by Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni after Isiaka pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy, stealing, and breach of peace.
The court sentenced Isiaka to six months imprisonment for each of the three charges, to be served consecutively. The verdict followed the presentation of facts by the prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche.
According to Uche, Isiaka committed the offence on August 6 in the Ajangbadi area of Ojo, Lagos, in collaboration with an accomplice who remains at large. The prosecutor revealed that Isiaka tricked the motorcycle’s owner, Mr. Chijioke Ezriem, into accepting bundles of paper wrapped in a nylon bag as payment, claiming it was cash. Isiaka then fled with the CT 110 Korean motorcycle but was later apprehended by the police.
The offences contravene Sections 168, 287, and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
