Man Escapes Lynching After Being Accused of Collecting Sand from School Children’s Footprints
A man identified as Bello narrowly escaped lynching in the Adewole community of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State, after being accused of collecting sand from the footprints of two schoolchildren. The incident occurred during the busy school rush hours near the Mandate Estate area.
According to eyewitnesses, Bello was spotted bending down and discreetly gathering sand from the children’s footprints. A resident, Mr. Ola, who was walking behind the children’s mother, claimed he noticed the suspicious act and raised the alarm. “I saw him take the sand and skillfully pour it into his pocket. That was when I confronted him and alerted others,” he recounted.
The commotion attracted the attention of residents, who quickly surrounded Bello. He was severely beaten and was on the verge of being lynched before some passersby intervened to prevent further violence. The suspect was eventually escorted out of the community.
The mother of the children, who was unaware of the incident until witnesses intervened, expressed shock and concern. She urged parents to remain vigilant and monitor their children closely to prevent any potential harm.
When questioned at the scene, Bello was unable to provide a clear explanation for his actions. He only stated that he was heading to Oko Olowo, a nearby area. His motive for collecting the sand remains unknown, fueling speculations among residents.
