Man Beheads Teenage Cousin Over Unresolved 2025 Dispute
A 25-year-old labourer, Ibrahim Oseni, has been arrested for allegedly killing his 18-year-old cousin, Hassan Suleiman, in Edo State. Both men hail from Katsina State and had unresolved disputes dating back to 2025.
The Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) confirmed that Oseni confessed to the crime. He was handed over to the Ugo Divisional Police Headquarters along with recovered items for further investigation.
The Deputy Commander of Operations, Richard Balogun, said the incident occurred on February 19, 2026, in Evbuoarue community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area. Oseni reportedly lured Suleiman to a farm road under the pretense of retrieving herbs for a stomach ailment. There, he attacked him with a cutlass, fatally injuring him.
Balogun stated that the suspect took Suleiman’s mobile phone and ₦36,000 in cash before fleeing. Part of the money was allegedly sent to Oseni’s family in Katsina. The ESSC recovered the cutlass under the suspect’s sleeping mat and also retrieved the stolen phone.
Oseni reportedly disclosed the death to local residents and led them to the crime scene, raising suspicions that prompted the ESSC to intervene. The suspect remains in custody as authorities continue their investigation.
