Brig-Gen Braimah: Final Moments on Call with Twin Brother During Attack Revealed
Brigadier-General Oseni O. Braimah was killed on April 9, 2026, during a late-night attack on the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State, alongside several soldiers. New details have now emerged about his final moments, including a phone conversation with his twin brother that ended abruptly as the assault unfolded.
Family accounts indicate that the two brothers maintained a close relationship and spoke frequently, often during late-night hours. On the night of the incident, they were reportedly on one of their routine calls when the situation at the military base changed rapidly.
A family source described the moment the conversation was interrupted.
“They had started talking after midnight as usual,” the source said. “While they were speaking, the General suddenly paused. It was as if he had noticed something unusual around him. Moments later, the line went dead.”
The abrupt disconnection triggered concern. His twin brother, who lives abroad, repeatedly attempted to re-establish contact through calls and messages but received no response.
“He kept calling and sending messages,” the source added. “He did not sleep. He kept trying until around 4 a.m., but there was still no response.”
Hours later, the family received official confirmation of what had taken place at the base.
“By about 6:30 a.m., we received a call from a senior Army officer,” the source said. “He told us the base had been attacked during the night, communication had broken down, and there were casualties. Then he confirmed that the Brigade Commander, my brother, was among those killed.”
The attack occurred at the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, where troops came under assault by armed fighters during the midnight hours. Several soldiers were killed in the incident, alongside the Brigade Commander.
Braimah, an indigene of Edo State, was later buried in Maiduguri alongside other personnel who died in the attack.
In response to the killing, the Edo State Government, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, approved full scholarships for the education of the late officer’s three children.
