Makinde responds to flood video, swings into action
The Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde has responded to the recent floods in various parts of the state.
He confirmed that there is a drainage master plan for Ibadan under the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project which is currently being executed and believes that when all of these projects are completed, it will ensure that occurrences floods are prevented.
Makinde immediately authorised the dredging on the area as a stop gap palliative measure to avert a recurrence.
The governor also confirmed that structures on waterways will be removed. He specifically mentioned the main road at Olodo, where habitants had already moved out of their houses. He promised that his govt will enumerate such properties & relocate those people and continue to work with those in flood prone areas to ensure that they are protected.
Makinde noted that the river is already being dredged under the IUFMP. But observed that the Sawmill Bridge is undersized. He confirmed that he has reached out to Local Government Caretaker Chairman to seek an approval so that work can commence to construct a new bridge.
Heavy equipment was immediately moved to the site and work has since commenced.
